Full details may now be found on our web site for this new tour based at one camp in Zambia’s beautiful South Luangwa National Park which provides a variety of stunning photographic opportunities for wildlife photographers. Game viewing drives by open four-wheel drive vehicles (by day and by night) are complemented by numerous professional hides established in strategic positions which have been used by many wildlife film companies over the years. These include the hippo hide overlooking a deep channel of the river with a new extension which has you eye level with the hippos and the elephant hide built on stilts above a well used river crossing point. Kaingo Camp aims to offer an in-depth wildlife experience and is well suited to catering for the requirements of keen photographers. The Park has a huge variety of wildlife to observe and photograph including two large lion prides, a good number of leopards, many elephants, hippopotamus, antelope, rarer species such as Hunting Dogs and Caracal, and a huge number of birds including African Fish Eagle hunting over the river.
Kaingo Camp offers an intimate and close-to-nature bush experience. Accommodation is in six comfortable, but simply furnished, stone and thatch chalets each having en suite facilities which all overlook the Luangwa River. To the front of each chalet is a small deck on the edge of the riverbank with comfortable chairs and foot rests where you can relax during the heat of the day. There is a central open-sided bar, lounge and dining area, and a shaded viewing deck cantilevered out over the river where light lunches are generally enjoyed.
The number of people in each of the open vehicles will be limited to ensure there is sufficient space for photographers and their equipment. Beanbags and dust covers will be provided. The programme for each day is flexible and may be varied to meet the needs of the group or individual requirements. The day will normally begin with a game drive starting before sunrise, photography from hides during the middle of the day and a game drive in the afternoon which will usually continue after sunset to view nocturnal species. Bush walks may be arranged for either the morning or evening for those wishing to stretch their legs!
