During the UK's winter, it is one of the best times to get away to one of Africa's prime locations for superb game viewing and excellent photographic opportunities, particularly for the Big Cats. We shall be returning for Kenya: Big Cats of the Masai Mara for our tenth consecutive year!
Peter Smart recently led two safaris to the Masai Mara and the numbers and variety of all the Big Cats was astounding, including many cubs of all the species. As well as many other mammals and birds, he also enjoyed his first sighting in the Masai Mara in over 20 years of the now extremely rare (but perhaps making a comeback?) Hunting Dogs ... a magnificent sight!
We stay in a tented camp established in a delightful valley with comfortable, large, twin or double bedded tents each with en-suite bathroom facilities consisting of a basin, shower and a flush toilet. Tents are furnished with proper beds, and table and chairs are provided on a covered veranda. The camp has a tented lounge with a selection of reference books and easy chairs - the perfect spot to relax in the heat of the day. Power for recharging batteries is available throughout the day. The camp is ideal for those wishing to experience the real African bush away from large, often noisy and impersonal lodges.
The size of each group is no more than eight and each client will be guaranteed a window seat in the camp’s specially adapted four-wheel drive vehicles which are ideal for photography. The professional driver/guides who will remain with us throughout the tour know the area extremely well, are experts on the animals and birds, and understand the needs of photographers. Game viewing drives are taken on the plains each day, taking picnic breakfasts and lunches to maximise our time in the field.
A full description of this safari may be found under Worldwide Tours section of our web site along with reports and galleries from past trips. The tour will be escorted by professional wildlife photographer Peter Smart who has led over 20 groups to the Masai Mara at this time during the last ten years, each of which have enjoyed superb Big Cat sightings and a varied range of other wildlife in the middle of the UK winter.
