Description

TheNew ForestNational Parkis one of the South of England’s most famous areas of natural beauty. The 150 square miles of country not only encompasses the largest area of natural deciduous woodland inBritainbut also has vast sways of open heathland and moor.

Our Landscape and close up photography day will be focused on some of the oldest areas of woodland in the Park. The aim of the day is to develop and maximise the guests’ photographic skills to capture this landscape in images. The day is fully escorted by an experienced photographic guide that will be on hand to help everyone get the best from the day. We will explore a number of creative styles and techniques and the guide will take time to ensure everyone in the small group gets individual attention with their own equipment.

After an initial briefing session we will explore an area of ancient forest and concentrate on capturing images of the wider landscape. Each season will bring different opportunities and challenges and we will look to record the colours, patterns and forms of the woodland. We also hope to focus our attention on smaller subjects and the day will a have a clear emphasis on discovering macro pictures.

We will then break for lunch back at the Land Rovers and the guide will have time to review everyone’s progress and pass on extra tips for the afternoon. We will then move to a different area of this beautiful forest and again look for images in the environment. There may be a chance during the day to also capture some of the forest many bird species and even the illusive Deer that are resident.

What to bring

  • You will be outside for much of the day so you should be dressed to suit the season and weather.
  • We suggest you have a water-proof coat in case of rain and waterproof trousers for kneeling down on wet ground. Shelter is available but you should note that all exhibits are outside and hence can not be viewed while using the shelter.
  • Refreshments will be provided on arrival and during the afternoon. However you should note this is a private location and there is no opportunity to purchase additional food and drink; it is suggested that you bring anything you require including a packed lunch and drinks, particularly if the weather is hot.
  • You are welcome to bring whatever photographic equipment you believe may be suitable. There is some walking involved and you will not always be very close to your vehicle so please ensure you can comfortably carry all your equipment.
  • Fill in flash and reflectors might be useful in some conditions e.g. where the subject is backlit.
  • A SLR camera with specific macro lens would be ideal, preferably having the option to go down to 1:1 ratio. A wide angle and telephoto lens may be useful.
  • A tripod or monopod is a must to make the most out of this event.
  • Make sure your batteries are charged and ready for action before you arrive.
  • Bring plenty of memory cards as its surprising how many pictures you can take in one day.
