Description

We are delighted to announce a significant change in our 2011 Nature in Focus programme. In recognition of customer feedback and to celebrate the launch of the Canon EOS 1D X we have decided to make Nature in Focus 2011 a free event, thanks to the support of CanonUK. The Fantastic new Canon 1DX will be available for demonstration at all four events and promises to be an exciting highlight of the trade area at the events.

Places will be limited and on a strictly first come first served basis.

Customers who have already booked, we will be in contact with you to organise a refund but rest assured you space will still be reserved for you.

With the exception of tea and coffee all other benefits of this great event will still be the same.

Following the success of last year’s Nature in Focus Roadshows, Canon, Páramo Directional Clothing Systems and Wild Arena are proud to announce this year’s series of inspiring photography roadshows around the UK. With feedback from participants, we are making this year’s event bigger and better, incorporating speakers on wildlife and landscape photography.

These inspirational events will celebrate the art of nature and landscape photography, providing delegates with a great opportunity to learn from experts in the field, with informative lectures, a chance to try out the latest equipment from top manufacturers and receive practical advice with outdoor sessions during the day.

We  will be holding the Nature in Focus Roadshows at three wonderful Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust sites around the country. This means that guests will not only have the chance to get outside and enjoy some great photographic opportunities during the day, but also ensure the events will contribute to the deserving work of the WWT.

Event highlights include:

Informative and entertaining seminar sessions

Charlie Hamilton James, Danny Green, David Ward and Philip Malpas - leaders in their respective fields of photography - will provide thought-provoking and inspirational lectures.

Trade displays

There’ll be an opportunity to get advice from leading manufacturers and try out their latest equipment, with a chance to purchase products at special rates thanks to support from our retail partners.

Practical sessions outside

Delegates can get ‘out & about’ around the WWT sites, receiving plenty of practical hints and tips from experts.

The days run from 9.00am until 5pm and are fully inclusive of entrance fee, refreshments and seminar admission.  Guests can either purchase lunch at the centre or alternatively bring a packed lunch to enjoy outside.

Guest Speakers

We have lined up four guest speakers, all leaders in their respective fields of nature & landscape photography.

Charlie Hamilton James

Cameraman, film-maker and photographer, Charlie Hamilton James specialises in wildlife documentaries, now made mainly for the BBC through Halcyon Media, run with his wife Philippa Forrester. His latest BBC series, Halcyon River Diaries, told the story of Charlie and his young family getting to know their wild neighbours on the river by their house. Other films he has made include The Wild Wood, On the Trail of Tarka, An Otter in the Family and Wye – Voices from the Valley. His passion, however, is still photography (he was twice Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year), which is another way of channelling his obsession with kingfishers and otters. His most recent feature was on kingfishers for National Geographic.

Danny Green

From a young age Danny was always wandering woods and rivers in search of wildlife. His late Grandfather was a big childhood influence, pointing out aspects of nature from different habitats and seasons, day and night. 30 years on, Danny is still keen to learn more about the natural world - from mammals to birds, insects and reptiles. Danny’s favourite UK destination is the Shetland Isles, with its vast seabird colonies and northern specialities always offering something to photograph. Danny’s images are regularly published in magazines such as BBC Wildlife, RSPB Birds and Outdoor Photography. He is represented by some of the country’s leading picture agencies like RSPB Images, Nature Picture Library and NHPA. He’s received numerous photography awards - with category winners in the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year, overall winner in the IWP awards in 2007 and winner of the Bird Category in Nature’s Best, 2009.

David Ward

David Ward is an award-winning landscape photographer working on large format. As a professional, he has photographed everything from huskies to Ferraris but landscape has always been his passion. As well as making images he writes about the philosophical side of photography and leads photographic workshops. Although he has specialised in large format photography for over twenty years, his emphasis in teaching is on the photographer's vision, rather than on what format is being used, and he tries to pass on his knowledge in an accessible and humorous manner.

Philip Malpas

Phil's abiding love for photographing the less populated parts of the world and the wilder side of nature goes back to the mid-eighties and his first visit to the English Lakes. Since that first visit Phil has returned every year and always finds something new and inspiring. Keen to share his love for the natural world and his passion for studying, in minute detail, the play of light on the landscape, Phil spent three years teaching colour photography in his home town -Swindon. Phil has travelled widely throughout Europe and the UK, with recent visits to the USA providing spectacular subject matter. Shot on a large format camera, meticulously constructed and beautifully printed, his images have a clarity and retention of detail befitting the subjects' natural design and architecture.
