Description

The White Tailed Sea Eagle has got to be one of the most spectacular wildlife spectacles in Europe and there is no better location to see these amazing birds than the sheltered Fjords of centralNorway. These huge impressive birds can be seen quartering the coastal waters in search of food and good fishing and are a symbol of the wild country that still exists on this northern edge ofEurope. Our exciting 6 day trip will take a small group of lucky photographers’ out on the waters of the Fjords and sea in search of these amazing creatures.

As with our other Norwegian trips we will be in the extremely competent hands of Ole Martin Dahle who is known locally as ‘the Eagle man’. Using his vast experience and intimate knowledge of these birds we will be able to attract them close to the boat using fish as bait.  This will provide us with amazing picture opportunities as the Eagles soar overhead and swoop in to catch the fish close to the boat. Over a number of trips out on the boat we should be able to get the Eagles in a variety of positions in both the air and fishing from the water, The lighting will also vary depending on the time of day and we hope to provide opportunities of the eagles flying into the dramatic evening sun as it sets across the islands of the Fjord.

As well as the unique chance to photograph Sea Eagles at amazingly close quarters we will also have ample chance to capture flying shots of a number of Gull species as they follow the boat across the water. Ole Martin will use his expert local knowledge to get shots of Gulls in ‘black water’ with back lighting in the deep shadows of the sides of the fjords. We will also take some time during our stay to capture some of the culture and beautifully scenery of this wild part ofNorway.

This trip has been carefully planned for only 4 photographers to ensure the very best opportunities for each guest to capture the classic images they are hoping for and extremely comfortable accommodation is included in Ole Martins specially design guest house.

Itinerary

Day 1 (D)

After arrival atTrondheimairport (usually either direct from theUKor viaOslo) you will be met by your guide and transferred by minibus to Lauvnes. This is approximately a 2 hour driveNorth Weston to the coastal region of Flantanger. After settling into the comfortable guest house, we will have dinner at the local restaurant where your guide will run through the plans for the trip.

Day 2 (B,L,D)

After an early start and breakfast in the guest house we will make the short journey to the jetty to board the boat for our first Sea Eagle session. The exact time will be decided on the day but it is likely to be early in order to catch the morning summer light. We will spend 2 or 3 hours out on the Fjords watching and photographing the Eagles and may stop to observe other wildlife like Porpoise. There is even a chance of seeing Orca on their summer passage along the coast. After lunch and an afternoon at leisure at the guest house we will again venture out on to the water to try and capture shots of the Eagles with the setting sun. We will also stop for an evening meal at the colourful local restaurant Zanzibar.

Days 3 & 4 (B,L,D)

The following 2 days will follow a similar pattern to day 2 with two excursions out on the boat to view and photograph the Eagles. The timings, duration and results of these trips will be influenced by the weather conditions and it may well take trips over several days to capture the images we are looking for. Most photographers find the chance to repeat the same opportunity invaluable to improving the final quality of their pictures.

Day 5 (B,L,D)

Day 5 will give us the chance to photograph some of the other wildlife and scenery of the local area. We will take a scenic drive into the mountains to view the lakes, streams and hills that make this part ofNorwaysuch a picturesque destination. There will also be the possibility of using one of a number of different hides in the forest to photograph small birds such as Crested Tit and the local Red Squirrels. Again the day will be concluded with a meal at the local restaurant.

Day 6 (B)

After a later start and good breakfast we will pack up and prepare for the return journey. Again we will be driven by minivan for 2 hours back toTrondheimairport for the return flight to theUK.
