The highlands of Scotland have a wealth of fantastic image opportunities and here at Forsinard Lodge, we are situated in one of the remotest, most peaceful and most beautiful parts of the country.
This week long photography tour is all about totally immersing yourself in the outdoors with your beloved camera. Your guide’s for the week will be David and Janet Southard who have a strong passion for photography, backed up by many years in the field. Throughout the week, they will guide our very small group of just 3 guest’s, to the best places in the this wonderful area. They will pass on their wealth of knowledge both on the technical side of photography, but also on the very important creative side of photography.
Autumn is a great time of year to visit the highlands and we would hope to see Red Deer, Jumping Salmon, Small Birds, Wildfowl and Waders, autumn colours, fungi, ruins, moody landscapes and breath-taking coastlines. There is simply so much here we may not find time for all of it!
We have outlined an itinerary, but we will be closely monitoring the weather, wildlife, aurora and the moon which may lead us to a change in the itinerary. Our experience of leading tours has led us to tailoring the itinerary of the tour as we go along, to make the very best of all the opportunities available.
With our very small group and friendly welcoming guides, we do believe this tour is appropriate for all levels of photography. The guides will have plenty of time to spend with everyone tailoring the learning experience to the individual. Ensuring everyone goes away with more knowledge and confidence in taking pictures and a great set of images to add to or start your portfolio.
Day 1: Arrival
Arrival at our Country House accommodation for an evening meal and introduction from your guides and discuss the next weeks itinerary.
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll head out with your guide to one of the waterfalls where we hope to find Jumping Salmon, once we’ve managed to capture some shots here we’ll head to the coast for some dramatic shots of the northern Scottish coast line
Today we’ll pack our breakfast up and take this with us for an early morning arrival at our local bird hide, here we hope to see Wading Birds and Wildfowl. We’ll then head back to the lodge for lunch and then drive out to find the local Deer population who should be thinking about rutting.
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll head out with your guide, in search of ruins and waterfalls. We’ll be looking for details in the scenes of the ruins and we’ll run through the best way to get great waterfall pictures with slow shutter speeds
We’ll be staying close to the lodge today, so after breakfast we’ll head outside in search of fungi, some great landscape opportunities and another waterfall
Today we’ll head out along a less known road that takes us through some breathtaking scenery, some wonderful ruins and we’ve saved the best waterfall until last.
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll head home.
Please note: – The itinerary is provisional and subject to change depending on local conditions. Not all wildlife mentioned can be seen well at all times of the year & some activities mentioned may not always be available.
Meals included are as shown – B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner
