What we aim to cover
  • Understanding the impact of camera settings
  • The importance of screen calibration
  • SRGB, Adobe RGB and CMYK
  • Colour profiles for printing
  • Printer calibration

Colour is such an important part of most people’s photography and we usually devote lots of energy to recording colour correctly in our cameras. However, we are often less concerned with the process of managing colour correctly through the rest of our workflow.

In this 1.5 hour live ‘zoom’ tutorial Janet will run through all the key stages of correctly controlling colour from screen calibration, image processing, colour profiles and the mysteries of home printing!

Whilst the topic may not sound so exciting, colours ability to radically effect the look of our pictures should mean this is a ‘must do’ area of learning.

  • Understanding the impact of camera settings

About Janet Southard:

Janet has been interested in wildlife and photography virtually forever! Through receiving her a first camera when she was only 13 and always having animals around, these interests have become lifelong passions.  She studied photography at college and worked in animal care at an animal rescue centre in Surrey.  More recently she been involved in customer service and has extensive experience at making things run smoothly for customers – a very useful asset when working with the less organized guides at Wild Arena!

She historically worked with film, medium format and black & white photography and now concentrates on Canon D-SLR equipment.  Janet is particularly interested in photographs showing animal behaviour and interaction.  She is also responsible for much of the development of Wild Arena’s own animal collection and currently cares for 29 different species for our studio workshop. Importantly she also holds responsibility for Branston and Baloo, the company’s lovable dogs, who are often seen snuffling around the cars at many of our workshops.

She has been working as a guide with Wild Arena since 2006 and has been the official photographer at Knowsley Safari park since 2012 and through this has been widely published in the media.  Janet is also involved in pet photography and has judged numerous competitions, including long list judging for BBC Countryfile.

An interesting tutorial and has given me a few things to think about and improve. An eye opener for me on the importance of screen calibration and colour consistency from camera to printer.
Very informative. What can be a difficult subject to get to grips with was well delivered and in a friendly and relaxed manner. Thank you Janet and David.
