|What we aim to cover||
The talk will cover an overview of how an interest in Lions led to the creation of the ‘Safina Lion Conservation Fund’, a UK registered charity, as well as explaining the current efforts the charity makes to fulfil its mission to work with others to protect and monitor lions in the wild. The talk will also focus on a recent trip to the Maasai Mara in Kenya made with Wild Arena to visit one of our conservation partners on the ground. You will be able to hear first-hand about the threats that wild Lions face and the problems that occur when trying to protect them as well as the stories we learnt from our guides about some of the local Lion legends that we were fortunate enough to see and tales of our adventures while out looking for Lions with pictures and video footage along the way.
- An overview of the SLCF’s lion conservation efforts and their work with zoos across the UK
- An overview of the conservation status of lions globally and their recent history
- Tales of first-hand observations of seeing lions in the wild and the way that they behave
As with all of our on-line, ‘Zoom’ presentations, we will limit the number of delegates to provide ample opportunity for everyone to ask their own, individual questions.
Please note: The proceeds from this particular talk will go to The Safina Lion Conservation Fund, so by booking a place you will be directly helping their vital work.
We want you to enjoy as many of these presentations as possible and as there is so much choice, with different speakers covering different subjects we are offering an amazing ‘Multi buy Bonanza’ 20% discount for 6 tickets on our on-line talks.
So you can buy 6 tickets, of your choice, for only £120 (members £96) by putting this product in your basket. This means you can save a whopping £30 on the regular price (members save a massive £54 off regular prices)!
About James Welch:
James grew up with a fascination of Lions since the age of two and spent most of his teenage years visiting and volunteering at his local zoo, which allowed him to forge a particularly close connection to two of their Lions. Having left school at 18 to start work as a zoo keeper apprentice, James has now spent 8 years working in three EAZA accredited zoos, forming a specialism in large carnivore species, particularly Lions. In 2017, along with three other trustees, James founded the Safina Lion Conservation Fund and has been fortunate enough to visit Africa to witness Lion conservation on the ground. He spends his spare time running all aspects of the charity as chairman while still working full time at a UK zoo where he currently works with Asiatic Lions, Clouded Leopards and other carnivore species.
