This workshop is currently on hold due to COVD-19 group restrictions. With the latest government announcements, we do not expect this event to run again until at least March 2021.
Wild Arena is delighted to be working with renowned macro photographer, Oliver Wright, on a super new workshop concentrating on advanced macro techniques and ‘focus stacking’. Oliver has built a great reputation for his innovative super close up images and will guide delegates through his ideas and workflow. We will begin the session with a presentation covering the equipment, technical steps and theory to enable capture of creatively stacked photographs of extremely small subjects. The group will then have the opportunity to move into the studio area to try their hand at creating their very own, stacked images of a variety of intriguing natural subjects. Oliver will also run through the key steps in using Adobe Photoshop to blend these images into an effective, resulting stack.
Oliver will be supported on the event by the Wild Arena team, who will also introduce ideas of controlling the stacking process with both in camera functionality and the use of motorised focusing rail systems by Cognisys. During the 3 practical sessions, the delegates will split into 3 groups, to each focus on a different set up and subject.
a) Focus stacking with Oliver
b) Cognisys & in Camera systems
c) Opportunity for great macro animal shots
The Wild Arena studio has a great range of lighting, equipment and interesting subjects, which hopefully will keep everyone busy and engaged throughout the day!
Oliver is a fairly recent professional photographer leaving a corporate office job in 2014 at the age of 41. Now works as an arctic landscape/aurora photographic guide during the Autumn/Winter period and then in the Spring/Summer time completing his own projects and guiding/teaching mainly in the UK. A specialist in macro photography, he has developed his own techniques for handheld stacking images, which produce a very unique view into the insect world, which can also be used in other photographic genres. Very much an outdoors/wildlife person so he is feeling he definitely made the right career move back in 2014!
In summary, this event is designed to get everyone started on the exciting journey of creating superb macro images using focus stacking as a core technique.

Tour Reviews
What a great day, so glad I attended this workshop the Wild Arena staff and Oliver Wright explained everything how to achieve Macro Images and the process of editing your final image, well worth the money and I came away with the knowledge to take my Macro to the next level, thanks again everyone.
Hi Everyone,
I’d just like to thank Oliver and the team for all the work they put in yesterday, I had a great time. Thanks to Oliver’s tuition, I managed hand held stacks which I’m very pleased with for a first attempt.
I’d be interested in any further macro courses that you put on. Particularly any masterclass type events.
Best wishes,
Robin.
