FRAMING MOMENTS, INSPIRING MINDS

Welcome to Wild Arena Photography

Inspiration and Guidance for Every Photographer

At Wild Arena we believe photography is about more than just taking pictures – it’s about slowing down, connecting with nature, and discovering new ways of seeing the world. From immersive multi-day holidays in Scotland’s breathtaking Flow Country to hands-on workshops and online tutorials, we offer experiences for every level of photographer. Whether you’re passionate about landscapes, culture or creative techniques, our small group approach and expert guidance will help you build confidence, develop your skills, and capture images you’ll truly be proud of.

We believe photography should be both inspiring and rewarding. For some photographers the joy comes from exploring beautiful places with a camera, enjoying the atmosphere of a location and capturing images that reflect the experience. Others are looking for something more structured — a chance to focus on developing new skills, deepen their understanding and make meaningful progress in their photography.

Because everyone’s journey with photography is different, we offer our events in two distinct styles: Inspired Experiences and Immersive Learning. One focuses on relaxed, experience-led photography in inspiring places, while the other provides structured workshops designed for deeper learning and creative development. Both share the same small-group approach, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful Highland locations — the difference is simply how you would like to experience photography during your time with us.

With nearly 40 years in photography, I’ve dedicated my life to making pictures. From studying photography at college to working as an assistant cameraman in natural history filmmaking, I honed my skills in macro, time-lapse, and studio lighting. I still enjoy shooting with film, finding the process refreshingly simple and therapeutic.

I’ve loved photography since receiving my first camera at 13. After studying photography at college, I worked extensively with film, medium format, and black-and-white photography, and now focus on Canon mirrorless cameras.

After a 25-year career in HR and qualifying as a solicitor, I followed my love of cooking and a quieter pace of life to join Wild Arena in 2018. Starting at Bird Fair, I gradually became full-time, ensuring visitors, guests, and staff at Forsinard Lodge are well fed and happy.

David and Janet have a lot of experience in running photography workshops and tours. Their lodge that was used as the base for the tour is very good, with attention to small things like a heated towel-rack, USB charging sockets and a desk in the rooms. At the end of the days tour delicious dinners were cooked by Adrienne. During the week David took us to varied locations around the highlands and gave us tips on improving our photography. In the evening after dinner we did a review of some of the photos we had taken during the day. The review was always very friendly, helpful and non-judgemental. At the end of the week I think my photography improved and I am also more thoughtful about how I take photographs. Thanks to the whole Wild Arena team - Janet, David, Adrienne and Jeanette for an enjoyable and educational week of photography and fun.
