Description

Following on from our popular ‘Beginners Macro Course’, we are delighted to now offer this additional course where we explore more advanced close-up photography techniques.

Building on the basic ideas covered in the introduction, in this tutorial we explore the key subjects of working greater than life-size, focus stacking and creative use of additional lighting. During the 1.5 hour on-line, live tutorial, our small group of students will be guided through these topics by our expert tutor. There will be plenty of time to ask individual questions and re-cap on anything you have not been able to understand.

During the presentation, the tutor will cover;

Working greater than life-size.

We will begin by recapping on how we measure the close-up performance of equipment with reproduction ratio. We will look at our expectation of ‘life size’ capable equipment and then explore how we might be able to push beyond this to record even smaller subjects, greater than life-size. With a review of accessories such as extension tubes and then a look a specialised lenses, everyone should get a sense of what is possible with their own, personal camera equipment.

Focus stacking

Focus stacking is without doubt the number one, advance macro technique to explore. We will review the 3 common ways of generating ‘source’ images and the different equipment you can use to assist in this. We will then run through an example software stacking process using the ever-popular Adobe Photoshop platform.

Creative use of additional lighting

With higher magnification and the application of a stacking process, there is often a requirement for more light. We will cover the 2 key types of lighting available for macro photographers, continuous/constant light and flash. With each type of lighting solution, we will outline the advantages and disadvantages, plus their suitability for working inside and in the field.

As with all of our on-line courses, delegates will crucially benefit from a ‘live’ tutorial and the subsequent ability to ask direct questions to the tutor. We also supply an electronic, PDF version of the notes after the course is completed.

This tutorial is perfect for those photographers wishing to grow and expand their close-up skills and techniques.
