Why We Fell in Love with Kingairloch

There are places you visit once, and places that quietly become part of your life.
Kingairloch became that place for us.
We first discovered it back in 2011 while planning our wedding. We wanted something simple – just a small celebration with close friends and somewhere beautiful where we could spend a week together. After lots of searching, we found Kingairloch.
Although we couldn't get married in the beautiful main house, there was a tiny church just down the road where the minister was delighted to marry us. We spent a wonderful week laughing with friends, exploring the surrounding landscape and celebrating one of the happiest weeks of our lives.
You might think that would leave us looking back through rose-tinted glasses.
It didn't.
We've returned many times since then and every visit reminds us why we fell in love with this remarkable corner of Scotland.
One morning you might wake to brilliant sunshine sparkling across the loch. The next, mist drifts silently through the trees, wrapping the hills in mystery. Sometimes fresh snow transforms the mountains overnight, while on other days dramatic skies race in from the Atlantic. Living on Scotland's west coast means the weather is never predictable, but somehow that's part of the magic.
Stand outside and look one way towards the sea, then turn around to see mountains rising behind you. As darkness falls, the stars begin to appear and, if you're lucky, perhaps even the Northern Lights.
It's difficult not to fall in love with a place like this.
Perhaps that's why, fifteen years later, we're still finding ourselves drawn back.
This November we're incredibly excited to be sharing Kingairloch with just three guests on our very first Pioneer Photography Holiday.
Every photographer has a place that keeps calling them back.
Where is yours?
